Sunday evening stroll

A warm late summer evening. It's still a bit humid. I still have an hour and a half to kill before dinner. The coffee shop closed at 6 so I had to leave. I'm strolling along a road that's probably just wide enough for two cars - like most back streets in Tokyo. The quietness is broken periodically by a bicycle bell coming from behind, reminding me to give way; a squeal from a toddler riding in the back of mum's mama-chari; a motorbike.

There isn't an excessive amount of street lamps. But the street is also lit up by white lights from vending machines, warm glows from small shops and tiny bakeries, standing bars, hairdressers.

I come to a slightly wider road. More restaurants and bars and cafes. All independent. No Starbucks or Yoshinoyas or Hub pubs.

Randomly I have a desire to buy bar soap, because I'm running low and also I know that hanging bar soap in the bathroom makes the bathroom smell nice. And this area seems like a place to be able to find stuff like that - hand crafted bar soaps, tiny cactus pots etc.

Across the train tracks, it gets a lot busier. A lot more people now, flowing in and out of supermarkets and pharmacies and the metro station. I find myself in more familiar territory. I still have 45 minutes to kill. Fuglen Cafe is very near, so I get a drink. Actually, I'll probably be drinking later so I'll just get a lemonade.

Time killed.
I still don't have soap.
But I do have a small loaf of bread and few small pieces of merangue from a tiny bakery.
